We wouldn’t call ourselves grammar pedant – after all, any self respecting copywriter knows it’s OK to start a sentence with “and” or “but”, which would leave our English teachers shuddering!
But there are certain habits that leave us shuddering too…
And over excitement with exclamation marks is one of them.
How you choose to pepper your personal communication with punctuation is fine, but when you are putting together marketing copy you need to really hold back from that exclamation mark.
If in doubt, leave it out could have been written for the exclamation mark in our opinion.
The problem is the exclamation mark is often seen as shouting, and even a little down market.
So, imagine the impact of multiple exclamation marks – just no, please don’t do it.
And in case you were in any doubt, using a lot of exclamation marks in email marketing copy can lead to your message being rejected by the spam filters.
Convinced? We hope so!
