Seccombe Builders Merchants
Seccombe are independent builders’ merchants operating from Isleworth and Croydon. It is a family run business serving the building trade, and the general public.
The business faces a lot of competition from the larger merchant chains, DIY stores and online offerings. The Managing Director, John Seccombe, used to handle the marketing, but has struggled to maintain regular activities whilst handling all the other aspects of running the business.
Just before they spoke to us, they had invested in back office software enabling them to maintain stock levels, order materials, price and invoice more effectively. This system had built in eCommerce functionality, which John was keen to harness, but recognised it needed a more attractive frontend, to achieve user engagement.
The existing website had been in place for some time, and was not attracting the visitors they hoped for, and neither had it driven sales.
They were also looking for ongoing marketing support, to help them grow the business, and compete against the larger merchant groups.
Initially, we were asked to manage the design, development and migration to a new website – providing copy and being the interface between John and the web team.
Once the website was live, we started working on a marketing plan, to start achieving return on the website and software investment.
This included developing a communications plan with blog posts, newsletters and social media updates, to engage customers, and printing promotional updates and POS for in-store.
We are also, at the time of writing, organising a breakfast event for the Isleworth store, to promote products, and enable suppliers to meet customers.
We have also worked with our strategic partners, Third Bounce, to deliver Client Insight – providing invaluable feedback from customers on their reasons for buying from Seccombe, and opportunities for growth. The company received very impressive scores and countless compliments.
The client reports they have achieved the best sales figures since 2008, and a 20% growth year on year.
They have received excellent feedback on their website, and report that it has helped them to overcome the perception that they are more expensive than their competitors.
We believe the business has so much potential to grow, and we are so enjoying being part of their growth, working directly with them and their suppliers to achieve success.
So what did the
After years of doing the marketing myself, I just didn’t have the time or depth of expertise to make it work properly. I found working with Nicky and the team at Bang to be a very personal service – giving me the flexibility and energy I would have got from a big marketing agency.
Nicky’s enthusiasm has really impressed us. Both about doing the job, and understanding our business. She has really got under the skin of us as people and our trade, customers and sector. She has become an expert in our world!
We have had great feedback on our new website, with Bang helping to make the whole thing a positive experience. Bang have created a marketing machine – delivering new routes to market and new ideas, which is really exciting. Our turnover is already up 20% year on year, and we haven’t been working together that long. We are really looking forward to the next steps and ramping up growth with the Bang team.”
