The Lilac Room


The Lilac Room is a small independent beauty salon, based on the outskirts of Winchester, serving an all female client base.

Jackie, the salon owner, first approached us in early 2017. The salon was not achieving a high enough revenue, and she was keen to grow the business. There was existing branding, although not consistent, and a relatively low key website. Jackie had been doing some advertising in local publications, but no other marketing.


The first task was to build a profile of the ideal client, so we knew who we were communicating with. From there we have a delivered a range of activities including:

Marketing strategy and planning

Regular email marketing

Introduction of a loyalty scheme

Design and build of new website

Introduction of referral scheme

Design and production of new price lists

Social media activity

Additional ad hoc tasks


Since working with the Lilac Room in 2016, we have achieved substantial growth of 55%. 

Working with Jackie, the salon owner, we create an annual communications plan and ensure regular content is sent out to all clients. Bookings have substantially increased and clients report their enjoyment of the newsletter and social posts.

Jackie now has more confidence when discussing products with clients and making recommendations. As a result, product sales have also increased.



From my first meeting with Nicky at Bang, one of the best feelings was having someone truly believe in my business and giving me the confidence to improve its viability and presence in a very competitive, but lucrative market. From the outset, we established who my client was and what my goals for the business were, which led to Nicky giving me simple but effective targets to aim for improvements. We set out a marketing plan for the year, which gave me focus and added drive.

Our main aim was to communicate with the existing customers via a monthly newsletter. This has proved immensely successful and I regularly get fantastic feedback about how they look forward to “my” messages each month, which proves how well Nicky and the team at Bang understand me and my business. They write the newsletter on my behalf, with only guidance on product detail from me, my customers believe it’s actually me that’s writing to them, because Nicky has understood me and my values, and, in turn, the way I communicate and operate within the Lilac Room. Not only have my clients noticed these changes, but equally my skincare company, Germaine de Cappuccini have noticed an increase in my product purchases and sales, as I have been assigned an on-the-road sales rep, rather than just telephone sales. They are now incentivising me to sell more also.

Something else, which also boosted my confidence, whilst attending a marketing information day put on by Germaine de Capuccini, I very clearly stood out as one of the only small salon owners with a marketing plan. An area I was failing in was product sales, which, with the help of Alex Barr, a colleague of Nicky’s, I have found some confidence and improved sales in this area too.

By adding in some clear marketing strategy, not only have my bottom line figures increased, but it has improved my visibility and, more personally, my confidence in running this business. Nicky and her team have always given just the right amount of help, so I feel totally supported, but equally work at a pace that suits my business plan.

In truth, I cannot thank them enough…… and I would recommend the business totally.
