PR is the often used abbreviation for public relations.
But what does public relations mean?
We would summarise it as unpaid media coverage.
But that is a very simplistic description…
A great PR person can do more than generate press interest. They very often set up speaker opportunities, identify and arrange key events for clients, arrange interviews with journalists, and help with the writing of white papers.
PR is a very specialist field, and can complement and dovetail very well with other marketing activities.
The purpose of PR is to raise awareness of a business
Traditionally, this would be done in print media, but, of course, now the digital/online world is just as important.
Beyond raising awareness, PR helps to establish you as an expert in your field, differentiate you from your competitors and position you as the “go to” person in your industry.
It might not feel as responsive as some marketing activities, but don’t dismiss PR out of hand. Like most marketing, it won’t necessarily produce immediate results – it is more a slow burn.
And, of course, do let us know if you need a hand!
